Give Me 30 Minutes and I’ll Show You How to Crush It On Your Job Performance Review!

I want to crush my next review

If you’re a Black government worker, there is one time of the year you do not look forward to.

It’s a time of year when government workers like yourself dread coming to work. It’s the time they wish they could skip out on.

But even sick days can’t stop this time of the year from happening.

Even if it’s delayed for a day, a week, or a month, please believe it will go down no matter what.

It doesn’t matter where you are in government: rank-and-file, supervisor, branch chief, agency head, senior executive…doesn’t matter. You’re going to have to face it and there is no escape.

That time of the year is Performance Appraisal Day.

I’m sure you may feel the annual (or even semi-annual) performance appraisal meeting is not the highlight of your work year. You and many of your Black colleagues do not look forward to it.

The truth is this: you’re not by yourself in how you feel about them.

The statistics don’t lie

There are studies upon studies proving the annual and mid-year performance reviews you get in your government job simply do not work.

    Check this out…

  • The tech giant, Adobe, kicked their traditional performance appraisal model to the curb back in 2012 – almost 10 years ago. That’s right…Adobe no longer does annual performance appraisals.
  • In fact, Adobe later performed a study of 1,500 U.S. office workers back in 2017. Adobe found that 59% of those surveyed agreed that performance reviews “have no impact on how they do their job.”
  • That same Adobe study found 22% of office workers have cried after a review.
  • According to a 2019 study from Gallup, only about 10 percent of U.S. workers felt engaged after receiving negative feedback on the job.
  • The same Gallup poll found that nearly 30 percent were so put off by a negative review that they began actively looking for a new job.
  • 55 percent of workers believe annual reviews don't improve their performance, according to a 2019 Workhuman Analytics & Research study.
  • Even companies are jumping on board with the idea of scrapping performance. Workhuman discovered that only 54% of companies in the U.S. are using the traditional model of an annual or semi-annual performance appraisal. That’s down from 82% only three years earlier – a drop of almost 30%.
  • One performance expert even declared, "The traditional performance-management approach has become outdated."

Take a moment and recall all of the performance assessments you’ve ever received:

Think of how you felt going into the office or conference room.

  • Did you feel like you were going to the principal’s office?
  • Did you feel good before the meeting, only to have those good feelings shattered?
  • Did you walk in the conference room confident, only to leave crying?
  • Did you sit down at the conference table justified in how well you did in your performance throughout the year, only to see your supervisor give you lower ratings than you thought you deserved?
  • How often have you disagreed with the low job performance ratings given by your supervisor? Is this an ongoing saga of your supervisor simply devaluing your efforts?
  • How stumped did you feel when your first-line asks, “Do you have anything to add?” or “Did we cover everything?”
  • After it was all over, how did you feel when you went back to finish your work day? Did you want to just leave for the day? Were you angry, confused, frustrated, or simply at a loss for words?

Let me add this on for size.

A Forbes article back in 2017 said the annual performance review was a practice driven by two purposes.  The first was to justify salary actions; the second, to motivate employees to higher performance.

Your job performance is unmistakably tied to two important things in your life: your money and your feelings.

Those two things don’t get along with each other.

If you get lower ratings on your appraisal than you hoped, be sure to expect to feel a way about your performance appraisal. And you sure won’t be getting any bump up in your paycheck.

Even if you were motivated to work for the whole year, your performance appraisal wouldn't always show this because your supervisor still would feel you didn’t do enough to get a salary increase.

Sound familiar? I know it does for me.

Well if I’m not on your street yet, how about this: what about that annual self-assessment your supervisor asks you to turn in every year?

You know…the one where you report all of your major accomplishments and progress for the year. How often do you do that? Do you skip out on completing it, feeling like it’s just a waste of time and it won’t make a difference?

The truth is you’re letting these valuable opportunities slip through your fingers. It’s costing you money, success, and, most importantly, the help you need to get to the next career phase.

The more you waste these opportunities, the more you will stay stuck on “Stuck”

Stuck in your current position or classification…

Stuck at the same pay grade…

Stuck at the same office, cubicle, or workstation…

Stuck with the same supervisor who works against you, giving you consistently average performance ratings, knowing you deserve better…

The same one who wouldn’t budge when you contested your review…

The same one who tells you to keep working hard, even though you both know it’s not going to reflect in a larger paycheck…or a good reference when you do put in for a promotion…

Or something else you need from your first-line.

The majority of Black government workers do not look forward to their performance assessments because it just represents more of the same: feeling and being undervalued, underappreciated, overworked, overwhelmed, and ultimately disappointed once they leave the conference room.

What if there was a way to hack the annual and mid-year performance appraisal?

What if there was a way for you to actually look forward to all of your performance appraisals every single year?

What if there was a way to be on the same page as your supervisor because you’re already knowing what to expect?

What if there was a way to make sure that you got a fair shake?

What if there was a way to leave your performance appraisal smiling instead of frowning, crying, or fuming?

What if there was an opportunity to work with your supervisor instead of feeling like your supervisor was working against you?

The help you desire to experience this doesn’t exist at your job right now. Probably never will in any Federal, state, or even local government agency you currently work in.

That’s because the government is going to keep doing what doesn’t work – for as long as it takes.

So you’re basically on your own trying to figure this out.

This is why I’m making exclusively available to you my APEXology Performance Self-Assessment

I'm ready to take it!

This powerful, one-of-a-kind assessment is a game-changing resource – one you will not want to be without at any upcoming or future performance reviews from here on out.

This tool is not available to anyone but people like you in my community – Black government professionals.

This tool was developed with you in mind – to help you prepare yourself before, during, and after you have that annual and mid-year sit-down with your first-line supervisor.

Take my word for it – I guarantee this will make you the envy of your office because you will have greater control over what happens during those meetings.

Just think of what it will feel like for your colleagues and coworkers to see you leaving your performance review with a smile on your face, while they are expecting the worst.

Just think of how you won’t have to lose your composure during your performance review anymore. You will no longer feel blindsided or as though you got the shaft based on what your review said about your job performance.

You will have a sizeable advantage over all of the other Black government executives, supervisors, and employees you work side-by-side with each day.

Not only that, you will even be further ahead than even your White counterparts and colleagues.

It’s an advantage putting you in the driver seat of your career, while at the same time getting your supervisor on board with your plan. Because it’s YOUR plan, not your supervisor’s.

You don’t have to trust me at all right now. Just TEST me on this. Go ahead…bring it.

I’m 100% confident the APEXology Performance Self-Assessment will transform your performance appraisal meetings into a powerful asset working for your benefit.

How the APEXology Performance Self-Assessment Works
